About
Welcome to Pizzeria Da Salvo, a cornerstone of pizza excellence nestled in the heart of Mainz, Germany at Werrastraße 3. This establishment has been delighting both locals and visitors with its delicious offerings for decades, captivating the taste buds of many with their authentic take on classic Italian pies.
With a rich history that resonates through its walls, Da Salvo was once Aldo's, as fondly recalled by customers like The Prescotts, who have returned after years abroad. They describe the pizza as “outstanding” and rave about the Italian salad topped with Thunfisch, deeming it “perfection.” Such testimonials underscore the restaurant’s ability to blend heritage with culinary passion. Patrons cherish their Thursday nights filled with delicious pizza and cherished family time, showcasing how Da Salvo has woven itself into the fabric of their lives.
The menu may not be described as gourmet by all, such as Sebastian Boppert, but it offers unbeatable value, proving that great taste doesn't have to come at a high price. Many, including David B, recall their time stationed near Da Salvo, highlighting the love that patrons have for every slice. They reminisce about how the flavors surpass mere meals—they create lasting memories. For Danny Marvels, the assurance of quality has remained constant over the years, a testament to the freshness and tastiness of each dish.
While the culinary stars are undoubtedly the pizzas, it's worth noting that Johnny Retro humorously pointed out the less-than-stellar lasagne. Yet, this quirk only adds character to a place famed for its pizza, reinforcing the notion that everyone has their own favorites. It’s also refreshing to note that Da Salvo prioritizes quality over convenience, opting against delivery—a decision that speaks volumes about their commitment to serving food fresh and hot, right from the oven.
However, be prepared for a bustling atmosphere. As many patrons note, parking can be a challenge, and if you don’t order ahead, a wait is almost inevitable. But that wait is always worth it, as customers come for the vibrant community feel just as much as they do for the exceptional pizza.
So whether you're a die-hard fan like the locals or a curious newcomer seeking the best pizza in town, Pizzeria Da Salvo is sure to become a beloved spot for your culinary adventures in Mainz. Experience the palpable dedication to quality and tradition that this restaurant embodies—each bite transports you to the essence of Italy.
“ One of the best pizza dealers in town. So good and so hood and so gangster that u have to pick it ! No delivery ! But the lasagne sucks… ”
“ Wouldn't call it gourmet, but the value is unbeatable ”
“ I've known the place for a long time now and the quality never failed. It's fresh and tasty. There's a reason these guys still don't offer delivery after decades being there. ”
“ I see more than a few Lee Barracks Veteran reviews. I used to eat here when it was Aldo’s from ‘85-‘89 when I was stationed here and lived right outside the 4-34 motor pool gate. Wife and I had STACKS of boxes! When we returned many years later it had become Da Salvo. The “new owners” didn’t miss a step! We live here again after 33 years in the states. Outstanding pie and my wife and son tell me the Italian salad with Thunfisch is PERFECTION! It is our go to place for Pizza with my wife’s mama almost every Thursday night. Always delicious, always quick, always affordable! Good luck parking though and you WILL have to wait in line if you don’t order ahead… I’d give their pizza an 8.1 using Pres Portnoy’s scale. ”
“ I was stationed at Lee Barracks in 1992 and lived near Di Salvo's till early 1995. Their pizza was the best I have ever had in my life! Their entire menu was great! I had the pleasure of returning in 2013 and 2014 and amazingly enough, the owner still remembered me. This place and its food are part of the fondest memories I will ever have. ”
“ Lee Barracks. 90-92 until they closed 8th ID. Best pizza in Mainz. Jumbo pizza. 10 D. marks if I remember right. ”
